Featuring Steve McCurry and Michael Yamashita
4th – 11th December, 2010
There is no city like Bangkok. For photography, it has subjects like no other. From ancient Buddhist temples to modern skyscrapers, unimaginable wealth to abject poverty, Bangkok is a city of contrasts--of light and dark--unlike any other. It’s a photographers dream.
Steve McCurry and Michael Yamashita are offering a very special photography workshop opportunity in Thailand’s City of Angels. Designed for serious emerging photographers and professionals who want to have the opportunity to gain valuable feedback, advice and inspiration from two of the world’s most accomplished National Geographic assignment photographers. This is a rare opportunity to hear two opinions about your work, and an opportunity to take your photography to the next level.
The weeklong workshop will open with a portfolio review. This will give both Michael and Steve an opportunity to see what subjects you are passionate about, what drives you to create pictures. From there they will suggest a subject located in the city for each photographer that will challenge you to do your best work, to create photography that captures the spirit of the subject. The final result is a series of photographs that tells the story—a narrative photographic essay--of Bangkok.
The workshop is designed to give each photographer the freedom to shoot pictures on their own, then meet during the late mornings and early afternoons for a daily critique. This combination, shooting a fresh story combined with daily review—is designed to make each student photographer examine their own work with the guidance of two of the world’s most seasoned professionals, along with the rest of the class. It’s a learning opportunity rarely offered, and one that is sure to inspire you, challenge you, and make you “see” photography like never before.
